Lead pack of the 2024 SPC Championships in the boys race
2024 SPC Championship Coverage
MileSplit was on site at the 2024 SPC Championships in Dallas, Texas. This was the final league championship of the year in Texas before the post season races/meets would begin.
After the outstanding 2023 SPC Championships, cool and crisp morning weather and intriguing races were on tap for SPC XC fans in Norbuck Park.
What we saw was Courtney McCracken (Trinity Valley) run to a 19:58 3A girls championship win over runner-up Marina Obregon De La Mora who ran 2021.
De La Mora's runner-up was good for her team as she helped lead Austin St Andrews Episcopal to the team win. They won 42 < 55 over The John Cooper School.
On the 3A boys side, it was St Andrews' Luke Dial phoning in the 3A boys win in 16:16. Edgar Thielens (Awty International) was second with a tie of 16:32.
Dial, his win along with teammates Reed Robinson (4th) and Cyrus Shoghi (10th) helped lead the team to the 3A team championship and a St. Andrews sweep. They won 39 < 68 over Awty International out of Houston.
On the 4A side, Houston St. John's freshman Taylor Synnott captured a SPC championship in her first attempt. Her 18:57 run was good enough for a five-second win over Hockaday senior Jordan Lacsamana's runner-up finish.
To no surprise, it was the Houston Episcopal girls winning yet another team title making it four consecutive with a 41 < 76 point win over St. John's.
It was St. John's who was able knock off the champions. They got top ten finishes from Jay Woodhouse (5th), Samuel Caruso (7th), Lyle Raymond (8th), and Andrew Wasserman (10th). They tallied only 41 points over St. Stephens' 54 and third place Houston Episcopal's 73 point total.
