4x200 Relay Meet Records Fall Back-to-Back At Carl Lewis Inv

2025 Carl Lewis Invitational

The 4x200 Relay is a difficult and challenging race to execute at a high level indoors. The indoor tack is short, tight, with room and distance disappearing quicker than normal. The baton exchanges are more difficult indoors that outside and execution is of the utmost importance.

Difficult ... well, try telling that to the Katy Mayde Creek and Fort Bend Marshall boys. The 4x200 relay record going into the meet was 1:29.27 by the H-Town Hurricanes Track Club set back in 2022. It was eclipsed on two occasions Friday as Mayde Creek and Marshall too turns hammering at it.

In heat one of the event, Mayde Creek went right at it with Elijah Ferguson taking the opening leg duties. Ferguson wasted no time in getting his team out to a good start; before hitting the second turn, it was clear he was business-minded and running with a purpose.

After the first exchange, Mayde Creek runners Eric Nelson, Damien Hankins, and Anthony Aieru had free and clear running lanes that were unabated by their competition. Instead, they were breaking the wind and leaving heat one in their backdraft.

In dominating fashion, they ran a 1:28.51, almost a second faster than the previous meet record. The celebration was on and the ink was in the record book for the new meet record holders.

However, before the in could dry, the celebrations would be short lived as in heat two, Fort Bend Marshall would get clarity on the standard that was set just minutes before their arrival on the track.

On the first leg, Kameron Williams' baton carry was almost an exact replica of Ferguson's run. Williams jetted out to a fast start and early lead for Marshall. That allowed for a decent exchange between him and quarter-mile star Jordan Riggs who would continue masterful running and had no barriers ahead of him and clear running lanes. Riggs would keep Marshall in the clear as Myles Ratcliff and Jordan Simmons were able to exhibit their speed on their legs and carry Marshall to a finishing time of 1:27.16, taking even more time off the previous meet record.

In the end, the new meet record belongs to Buffalo's Run (Fort Bend Marshall) with an over two-second improvement and Katy Mayde Creek as the No. 2 all-time performer in the history of the meet. In the national rankings, Marshall sits at No.1 and Mayde Creek ranks No. 6.
