McNeil Invitational Meet Summary

The 2004 McNeil Invitational hosted some of the best teams in Texas. It is one of the biggest meets on Texas because the course is the same exact one used in the UIL State Cross Country meet in November. Alot of teams come to McNeil to get a preview of the course. This years McNeil Invitational was greeted with some interesting weather. The storms forced a change of plans from parking, race times, and the actual course. The bridge used by the girls in the 2 mile race was totally washed out forcing the course to be completely different minus the start and finish. The 5k course looked to stay the same. The meet was delayed for about 1 hour due to the conditions.

The Girls Gold 5k race got things started. The race was a who's who in Texas. Kingwood (#1), Highland Park (#1 4A), Cedar Park (#3), Georgetown (#6), A&M Consolidated (#9), Dripping Springs (#4 4A), Friendswood (#5 4A), llano (#7 3A). Kingwood got a great performance again by Freshman Megan Munoz (4th 18:52) to take the title with a low score of 38 points. Kingwood placed all 5 runners in the top 15 averaging 19:07. In a mild upset Cedar Park defeated Dallas Highland Park 66-81. Jennifer White led Cedar Park with a 19:01 6th place showing. A&M Consolidated ran well to beat (#6) Georgetown which should move them up in the rankings. A&M was led by overall race winner Jocelyn Gardner (18:21).

The Boys Gold race was just as interesting. Kingwood (#3), Cedar Park (#4), Cinco Ranch (#5), Mayde Creek (#10), Bridge City (#1 3A), Hereford (#3 4A), Friendswood (#4 4A), and Valley View (#3 3A). Cedar Park ran a great race with 1-5 within 21 seconds of each other to take the time title over Kingwood 118-146. Cedar Park was led by 13th place of Perry Morris (16:21). Cinco Ranch rounded out the top 3 with 191 points. Overall Scott MacPherson dominated the race from start to finish running a great 15:25 in muddy conditions. Taylor Ray ran an impressive 15:50 to lead the DFW 1-2 sweep.
