Addyson Bristow (Canyon) ran 2:08.08 this past weekend in the 800m
In track and field, we are used to athletes competing in more than one event. In the smaller classifications, we are even used to them doing several sports at the same time.
If you sprint, you should be able to compete in more than one event and the same goes for the hurdles, jumps, and throws. However, some athletes are doing so and are doing extremely well in three events. By doing well, I mean some of the sprinters and distance runners are producing top 15 marks in three events. There is also an athlete who is doing well in events that don't usually see athlete excel in both.
Girls
Carla Angueira-Colombani (Katy Seven Lakes)
Colombani is the only girl on the list who in the top 15 in just two events. However, her two events are ones where athletes typically shine in both.
The Katy Seven Lakes sophomore is ranked No. 2 in the pole vault wither a 12-6 best clearance from the Dan Green Invitational. Colombani is also a good long jumper. She has a season best mark so far of 19-6 from her leap at the Katy ISD Bubba Fife Relays.
Datavia Hunter (Lancaster)
Lancaster senior Hunter has been a big part of the Tigers squad and the WEBO relays. So far this year, she is doing extremely well individually as well as coming up huge on their impressive relays.
Hunter has top 15 marks in the 100m, 200m, and the 400m with her 11.86, 23.77, and 54.66. Keep in mind, Lancaster is in 6A beginning this year and the bigger she comes up and the relays, it gives them a chance to transfer their UIL 5A team state championship winning ways to 6A.
Addyson Bristow (Canyon)
Bristow is no stranger to being on the elite in Texas. The Canyon has won two straight UIL 4A cross country individual state titles and she won the 800m state title last year and was second in the 1,600m. Freshman year, Bristow was second in the 800m and was seventh in the 400m.
This season, Bristow has been on another level by running personal bests indoors and outdoors. Outside, she ran a 2:08.08 in the 800m and 4:54.75 in the 1,600 at the Canyon Invitational. She ran a 10:34.48 PR a week prior at the Don Black Invitational. Bristow has the top 800m mark in the state and the second best in the 3200m.
Taylor Nunez (Universal City Randolph)
She is right back on course so far this season. The Texas A&M commit leads the state in the 100m with her 11.32, ninth in the 200m with a 23.90, and is fourth in the long jump with a 19-8 season best jump.
Adeline Bennett (Flower Mound)
Let me know if you've seen this play before. A Flower Mound distance girl is one of the state's leaders at 800m, 1600, and 3200m seems to be more the norm than an outlier and they make it seem more normal than abnormal.
Bennett currently has top 15 marks in all three distance events with her 2:12.63, 4:52.98, and 10:36.10. The sophomore qualified for the UIL 6A state meet last year in the 800m and currently has the third best mark in the 1,600m and the 3,200m
Skylar Brazzell (Northwest Nelson)
So, Skylar Brazzell only has a top outdoor mark in the 800m. Yes, that is correct, the 800m. She ran 2:12.88 this past weekend, partly because she just wanted to see if she could break the school record. She came up a couple of hundreds of second short but for a sprinter of her caliber, she gets an A for both wanting to attempt it and or the effort.
The Georgia commit is the top indoor 200m runner in the country indoor and the third fastest in the 400m.
Lily Fawcett (Cypress Bridgeland)
Despite Fawcett being the third girl on this liste who is performing well in all three distance events, it is an extremely difficult accomplishment in the UIL 6A classification and the entire state combined.
Fawcett is compounding on her cross country season where she finished second at the state cross country meet. The Texas commit checks in 14th in the 800m with a 2:14.87, second in the 16,00m with a 4:49.98, and fourth in the 3,200m with a 10:37.46.
Boys
Brandon Gilmore (Mansfield Timberview)
Gilmore has turned himself into a name to know in the early goings of this outdoor track and field season. The junior is top 15 in the 100m, 200m, and the 400m.
He has the ninth best 100m mark with is 10.50 run and his 20.79 is the top 200m mark with both coming from the Cedar Hill Opener. Gilmore stepped up in distance this past weekend at the Red Oak Ritter-Carter Relays where he ran the eighth best mark in the 400m with his 47.95 run.
Braylin Byrd (Tomball Memorial)
Byrd is another throwback sprinter demonstrating his abilities from the 100m to the 400m.
Byrd has a 10.52 season best in the 100m to rank 13th. He is also 10th in the 200m with a 21.25 mark and this past weekend at the Tomball Cougar Relays, he ran the third best mark in the 400m with his 47.18.
Heath Grant (Willis)
Grant has been nothing less than impressive with his consistency and elite marks in the 400m and 800m events. He currently has the top outdoor ranked runner in two events.
He lowered his 400m PR to 46.48 with his win at the Conroe Tiger Relays to go with his 1:50.99 at the Dan Green Invitational.
Aidan Danny Torres (El Paso Eastwood)
Torres is one of the biggest distance talents in the state of Texas. He is an individual NXN qualifier each of the past two seasons.
This season, the Texas commit is a top performer in the 1,600m and 3,200m events. That is nothing new for the El Paso Eastwood Trooper and his 4:20.13 and 9:17 putting him at 13th and sixth respectively.
DeVonte Taylor (Houston Episcopal)
Bradley Lowman (Stafford)
Jason Wade (Northwest Nelson)
The Northwest Nelson senior is off to a great start to the track season. He has a 4:18 best this season in the 1,600m to arnk eighth in the state. This past weekend, he ran stride-for-stride with his teammate in the 3,200m at the Northwest Texan Invitational.
He finished second in the 3,200m, but it was good for the eighth best mark in the event when he crossed in 9:18.96.
Addyson Bristow (Canyon) ran 2:08.08 this past weekend in the 800m
