WATCH LIVE: UIL State Track And Field Championships
Katy Mayde Creek senior Elijah Ferguson is closing out his high school career on the biggest stage possible-the UIL 6A State Track and Field Championships for the third consecutive year. It's a remarkable feat that few high school athletes get to experience even once. For Ferguson, it's been a journey built on consistency, growth, and an unwavering commitment to his craft.
Over the years, Ferguson has steadily risen through the ranks, evolving from a promising underclassman into one of the nation's elite quarter-milers. His latest performance-a blistering 45.46 in the 400m at the Region 3-6A Championships did more than just punch his ticket to Austin. It cemented him as one of the top five fastest Texas high school 400m runners of all time, placing him in the company of legends.
But Ferguson's success hasn't come in isolation. His work ethic and leadership have helped elevate the entire Mayde Creek track and field program. This year, the team is bringing firepower across the board, with all three relay squads qualifying for the state meet. With podium potential in each event, Mayde Creek enters the championship meet not just as participants, but as serious contenders for a team title.
As Ferguson prepares for his final lap in a Mayde Creek uniform, he does so as a symbol of what dedication, talent, and team spirit can produce. Whether it ends with medals or records, his legacy is already secure-and the next chapter begins in Austin.
Tune in to watch Ferguson and his Katy Mayde Creek teammates compete at the 2025 UIL State Track and Field Championships.
