
Roy Hughes, wins the 2024 UIL 4A 300m hurdles in 36.58
Dallas Lincoln hurdler and UIL 4A state champion Roy Hughes passed away Friday afternoon in his home. His death was unexpected and without a doubt untimely. Per reports from Fox4news.com, his mother said after a morning practice,he went home and fell asleep but never woke up.
This week, Hughes was expected to begin his senior year of high school. One that he was expected to take college visits, go to his senior prom, defend his UIL state title, and graduate.
He qualified for the Texas UIL state track and field championships both as a sophomore and junior. Sophomore season is where Hughes placed fifth in the 110-meter hurdles and was seventh in the 300-meter hurdles posting season best of 12.25 and 38.80. With the help of his Lincoln HS coaches, he used a personal desire to excel as his motivation to improve.

During the 2025 track and field season, which ended in May, Hughes improved his personal bests to 13.97 and 36.58, the latter coming in state championship fashion.
Athletics isn't the only area where Hughes excelled. He has been described as a true role model, an excellent student, and a respectful young man with a heart of gold.
