The Keller Indians left no doubt at the Marcus Coach T Invitational, using a complete team effort to claim the elite varsity boys' title in one of the most competitive early-season races in Texas. With a team score of 140 points, a 15:41 average, and just a 45-second spread, Keller topped a loaded field that featured several CCCAT top-10 programs, including Austin Vandegrift, Waxahachie, Northwest Nelson, and Flower Mound.
Bowcutt and Abeyta Lead the Charge
While the individual crown went to Denton Guyer's Ruel Newberry (14:39), Keller relied on its signature pack running. Boston Bowcutt was the first Indian across the line in 11th place (15:20), followed by Anthony Abeyta in 13th (15:23). That 1-2 punch set Keller up early.
From there, depth sealed the deal: Austin Boto (31st, 15:45), Heath Shiflett (34th, 15:53), and Cade Swan (51st, 16:05) closed out the scoring, each runner keeping the team spread tight and ensuring Keller's grip on the top spot.
Race Within the Race - Beating the 6A Ranked Teams
The most telling storyline wasn't just Keller's overall win - it was who they beat. Coming in, the CCCAT 6A rankings had Austin Vandegrift at No. 4, Waxahachie at No. 5, and Northwest Nelson at No. 6 Waxahachie and No. 10 Flower Mound all finished behind Keller on Saturday.
No. 4 Austin Vandegrift: Runner-up with 178 points and a 15:43 average, led by Kai McCullough (14:41, 2nd). Depth kept Keller ahead.
Flower Mound (Top 10): 4th with 210 points and a 15:55 average despite Benjamin Macias (12th, 15:22).
No. 6 Waxahachie: 5th with 229 points and a 15:58 average, strong up front but faded at 4-5.
No. 10 Northwest Nelson: 8th with 343 points and a 16:14 average, over 90 seconds slower in spread than Keller.
The "race within the race" showed just how complete Keller was. Their 15:41 team average not only outpaced all four ranked squads, but their 45-second 1-5 spread was the sharpest of the bunch.

A Program Statement
For a team that wasn't sitting atop the CCCAT rankings to start the season, Keller's win at Marcus Coach T was more than a victory - it was a statement. By taking down four ranked opponents and running the fastest team average of the day, the Indians announced themselves as a legitimate contender in 6A.
With Bowcutt and Abeyta setting the tone up front and a reliable pack closing the gap, Keller has proven it belongs firmly in the mix for UIL 6A podium contention in 2025.
