Waxahachie Dominates UIL 6A District 11

- - -

District 11-6A may be a sprint factory on the oval, but its cross-country storyline was clear: Waxahachie brought endurance in groves to run the table.

In the girls' race, sophomore teammates Reese Bartos (18:32) and Jenna Moore (19:18.9) reprised last fall's breakout (they were 1-3 in 2024) with a convincing 1-2, a sign the Indians' youthful core is maturing right on time.

Behind them, Monique Phoenix (Lancaster, 19:37.9) broke up the green wave, while Duncanville's veteran Kaily Pena (20:37.6) and Lancaster's Dalashia Friels (20:44.0) rounded out a top five that blended speed pedigree with just enough aerobic grind for the Waxahachie Sports Complex style grass.

Depth sealed it for Waxahachie: Addison Torres (20:52.7), Anastyn Sanchez (20:59.6), and Savannah Scott (21:00.6) crowded the top ten to leave little doubt.

Waxahachie's team performance mirrored the individual leaderboard: 29 points, a 20:08 average, and a 2:28 1-5 split, powered by that 1-2 finish and three more scorers in the top 10.

Mesquite Horn earned runner-up with a steady pack (places 6-16) and a tight 1:32 spread, while Duncanville's top-end speed delivered third, enough to secure a Region I ticket. Lancaster's front was excellent, but the 6:16 split told the story in a depth-driven sport.

On the boys' side, the CCCAT No. 6-ranked Waxahachie showed exactly why their ceiling is so high in November: a perfect 15 with a flourish-they swept the top seven places.

Cooper Grady (15:04.9) took command early and was never threatened; Lucas Whitt (15:24.3) and Brock Morales (15:52.2) secured the podium before Oscar Harms (15:55.7) and Jonathan Marsh (16:13.4) closed the scoring.

The Indians' 1:08 1-5 split and 15:42 average are elite in any district context and should translate to fast qualifying at Region I.

Duncanville leaned on Edson Serrano (16:26.9) and Rene Correa (16:44.3) to steer a second-place team finish, while Dallas Skyline's pack discipline earned the final advancing spot.

Takeaway:

In a district better known for 4×1 fireworks, jumps, and throws than long-grind cross country, Waxahachie's balance-front-running stars plus honest depth was the separating factor.

The girls' trio of Bartos-Moore-Torres and the boys' seven-deep steamroller give the Indians both low sticks and pack security heading to Region I, while Mesquite Horn (girls) and Duncanville/Dallas Skyline (boys) showed the kind of spreads and mid-race toughness that can make noise in the next round.
