John Boland Captured The TAPPS 6A Boys State Title

When John Boland of Antonian passed a struggling Wells Peterson to capture the TAPPS 6A Individual State XC Championship, he helped secure Antonian's 23rd team title.

After the two-mile mark, Peterson held a commanding 25-30-meter lead heading into the chute. He staggered and fell. He rose and fell again 4 or 5 more times. While the thought of helping him up crossed his mind, Boland made the right decision to keep going and, in the process, procured the gold. 

He's since spoken with Peterson, an incredibly humble and talented young runner, and the two agree on the strategy. They'll likely see each other at least once over the track season if not again this fall.
