CJ Williams Throws Bomb At Texas HS Indoor Shot Put Comp

The boys' shot put at the 2026 Texas High School Indoor Championships delivered a high-level early-season showdown, highlighted by elite depth and a commanding performance at the top. CJ Williams, the reigning UIL 5A state champion in both the shot put and discus, wasted no time asserting control of the competition.

On his very first throw, the Ole Miss commit launched the shot 65-4¾ (19.93m), a mark just under his meet record, but that immediately separated him from the field and set the tone for the rest of the event. Williams backed up that opener with two additional throws over 64 feet, showcasing both power and consistency as he cruised to the win and announced himself as a national contender once again.

Behind Williams, the battle for the remaining podium spots was intense. Jett Harrison emerged as the clear runner-up, reaching 62-8 (19.10m) and becoming one of only two other athletes on the day to surpass the 60-foot barrier. Justin Bordelon followed closely in third with a strong 62-4 (19.00m) effort, giving the competition three throwers over 60 feet-a notable feat for an indoor meet this early in the season.

The rest of the field reflected the growing depth of Texas throwing, with Shaun Hughese, Christopher Godsey, Hans Scheff, and Wyatt Gray all producing marks beyond 56 feet. As the ring rotated through six rounds, athletes continued to find rhythm and adjust technique, but Williams' opening throw ultimately stood untouched.
