Kira Bowman Wins Texas Tech Pole Vault With 12-6 Clearance

Kira Bowman gets set to take. trip up the runway for a vault at the Texas Tech Wes Kittley Inv.

The girls' pole vault at the Texas Tech Wes Kittley Invitational once again highlighted why the event has become one of the most technically advanced disciplines in Texas, and at its center was Kira Bowman. Entering the weekend as the Texas indoor state leader after clearing 12-11½ at the Texas High School Indoor Championships, the Royse City senior arrived in Lubbock carrying both momentum and expectation. Competing for Texas Express TFC, Bowman handled that pressure with poise, capturing the title with a winning clearance of 12-6 and continuing a season that has already established her as the standard in the state.

Bowman's competition strategy reflected her experience and confidence. She passed through the early heights, 9-0 through 11-0, without taking a jump, conserving energy and narrowing the field. When the bar reached 11-6, Bowman entered the competition, needing two attempts before clearing, then found her rhythm as the bar rose. She made 12-0 and 12-6 cleanly, separating herself from the rest of the field and locking up the win. With the victory secured, Bowman took three confident attempts at 13-0, just missing on each but showing the form and pop that suggest higher clearances are within reach as the season progresses.

The performance fits seamlessly into Bowman's already impressive resume. Outdoors last year, she cleared 13-6 to win her UIL district title, captured the UIL state championship at 13-3, placed third at Nike Outdoor Nationals, and finished 10th at the USATF U20 Championships.

Even earlier in her career, Bowman proved her consistency on the biggest stages, finishing runner-up at the 2024 UIL state meet. Her win in Lubbock may not have produced a season-best height, but it reinforced her reliability, competitive maturity, and ability to win meets while building toward peak performances.

Behind Bowman, the field showed solid depth, with Nellie Mauritz-Barboza finishing second at 12-0 and freshman Kinzley Grantham impressing with an 11-6 clearance. As the indoor season continues, Bowman's Texas Tech performance serves as another steady step forward-one that keeps her firmly atop the Texas rankings and positions her as a national contender once the bar starts rising toward the mid-13-foot range again.
