The Texas middle school girls jumps leaderboards are taking shape, and a handful of athletes are already putting up marks that rank among the best in the country.
The high jump state lead is split among four athletes, all tied at 5-4.00. Pioneer Heritage MS eighth grader Peyton Wright opened her season at 4-8 on Feb 18 and cleared 5-4 a week later. Frisco Vandeventer Middle seventh grader Adesha Osuji opened on Mar 2 with 5-4, a PR on her first outdoor attempt of the season. Liberty Christian School-Argyle eighth grader Brooklyn Land went 5-0 on Feb 24, then improved to 5-4 for a PR at the Liberty Christian MS Warrior Relays on Mar 24. Alia McClarty took the longest route to the mark, going 5-0, then 5-2, then 4-8, before clearing 5-4 for a PR at the Frisco ISD Zone 2 Championships on Mar 11. All four are among the top high jump marks in the country at the middle school level.
Azle South MS eighth grader Tatum Webb leads the state long jump leaderboard and keeps improving. She opened at 14-4.50 at the Big 12 Hornet Invitational on Feb 25, went 14-6.00 at the Brewer Middle School Relays on Mar 4, then leaped 14-7.25 at the MS Pojo Relays on Mar 11. On Mar 25 at the Big 12 District Meet-Zone 2 she went 14-8.00 for a PR. She has also run 13.96 in the 100m for a PR this season and holds a triple jump PR of 30-6.50 from the MS Pojo Relays on Mar 11. Teammate Josi Hanson is also one of the top jumpers in the state having jumped 13-7.50. Creekview MS eighth graders Nicole Berry and Divine Mandungu have gone 13-3.25 and 13-1.75, respectively.
Alexis Sanchez leads the state triple jump at 31-2.00, a PR set at the Big 12 District Meet-Zone 2 on Mar 25. Before that she had gone 31-1.25 at the MS Pojo Relays on Mar 11. She has also run 13.70 in the 100m for a PR this season. Creekview MS has three athletes in the triple jump top five: Raegan Gillen sits fourth at 27-4.00 and Kylie Tran sits fifth at 27-1.50.
San Antonio Saint Mary's eighth grader Kinzley Grantham sits top the pole vault leaderboard with a mark of 11-0.00, cleared at the SMH HS/MS Invitational on Mar 28. She has vaulted 11-0 three times this season, a marked improvement on her 9-6.25 indoor opener in January. Brabham MS eighth grader Brinlee Morris sits tied for second at 10-0.00, from the McCullough Junior High Invite on Mar 5. Avery Pustejovsky of Blackwell and Lyla Kim of Lake Travis MS are tied for fourth at 9-6.00.
