London Yannity Crosses the finish line at the 2026 UIL State Championships
The UIL 1A girls 3200-meter championship once again belonged to defending state champion London Yanity of Tilden McMullen County, who successfully defended her title in a tactical race that steadily evolved into a test of endurance and closing strength. Two years after Taytum Goodman's classification record of 10:56.53 elevated the standard for the event, the 2026 final entered Austin with Yanity carrying the spotlight after her 2025 championship run of 11:17.24. Jayton senior Jace Chisum, White Deer's Makayla Chaney, and Bellevue sophomore Mattie Broussard all arrived with strong regional qualifying marks and quickly established themselves among the early contenders.
Chisum aggressively led the opening stages, bringing the field through the first lap in 1:19 while Hallie Irons and Chaney stayed close behind. By 600 meters, however, Yanity had moved smoothly into contention and soon took over the lead. She and Chisum crossed 800 meters together in 2:43 before Yanity gradually began opening a small gap on the backstretch. As the race progressed through 1200 and 1600 meters, Yanity steadily controlled the pace while the chase pack reshuffled behind her. At the mile, Yanity led in 5:31.87 with Chisum and Chaney several seconds back while Broussard steadily worked her way forward into medal position.

With two laps remaining, Yanity crossed 2400 meters in 8:30.33 holding roughly a seven-second advantage over the field. Broussard continued moving through the pack and eventually passed both Chisum and Chaney to move into second, while Timpson sophomore Madison Grigsby, fresh off her strong performance in the 1600 meters, also surged into contention late. But Yanity never allowed the race to become truly dangerous. Over the final lap, the defending champion delivered another strong close, finishing with a 1:23.03 final circuit to secure her second consecutive state title in 11:24.76.
Behind Yanity, Broussard closed impressively over the final stages to take second in 11:31.33, while Chaney edged Chisum for third, 11:33.33 to 11:41.11. Although the race never threatened the classification record pace, Yanity's ability to control the race from the front and respond to every challenge once again demonstrated why she has become the standard in UIL 1A girls' distance running.
