Darrion Flowers Texas MileSplit USATF Region 12

Darrion Flowers

1) Coming off the 2015 outdoor season where you focused on the 200m, what made you decide to switch back to the 100m heading into JO’s?

I had to continue to do what I'm good at because I know that I will make it much farther in the 100.

2) You only ran the 100m a few times during the outdoor season, what did you work on after State to be prepared to race at USATF Region 12?

I worked on my starts and getting to the second level.

3) You won USATF Region 12 with a very impressive 10.35, what did it mean to win that race, and be able to show everyone you’ve still got that speed?

It meant that I was coming into the championship strong and that I'll always be able to run the 100.

4) Heading into USATF Region 12 I’m sure your goal was to win that race and then come back to win JO’s. Did running 10.35 at that meet change your goal for the time you’re looking to run in Jacksonville?

No it didn’t, that time will just make me run against the clock to beat it.

5) Entering as the top seed, how do you stay focused on executing your race and handling that pressure?

I ignore all social media and keep my mind on the race and do mental reps so that I'll prepare myself and do it as I see.

6) You’re also on the solid Hallmark 4x100m squad, what is your team looking to accomplish at JO’s in that relay, and what have you worked on since Region 12 to achieve those goals?

We are looking forward to getting the stick around and advancing to the next round.

7) There’s no doubt Texas is bringing the strongest group of sprinters to Florida. How does competing against the outstanding Texas competition help prepare you for a National Championship meet?

I know what I'll be up against and I just stay mental focused and prepared.

8) Knowing that some very successful athletes have come out of Hallmark Track Club before you, how does that motivate you to perform well when you put on that uniform?

That I have to represent my team with honor and be proud to wear that uniform.

9) Of course this wont be the last we’ll see of you, having committed to TCU. A standout team with both individual and relay NCAA champions. How excited are you for that next step in your career and joining that program?

Very excited its time to see what I am capable of doing on the next level and being part of something great those guys are like family since day one.

10) What's your experience been like with Hallmark Track Club and what would your advice be to young athletes who are thinking about joining?

Its been great to be coached by coach Sholars, and I'll tell the younger kids to stay dedicated to what you love. Be humble, be proud to pit in that uniform and have fun. Also I'll tell them my philosophy that I go by and its "Do what you love for who you love”.
