The boys team race has three solid teams, all of which will be looking for the win. The group includes last year's state champions Valley View. The team only lost two seniors from last year's state team. This year they crushed region, scoring 20 points, and placing 5 runners in the top ten. They were led by senior Joe Don Pembroke (16:55) who also has a good shot at an individual podium finish. A team that will look to challenge them after finishing runner up at last year's state meet is New Summerfield. The New Summerfield guys also crushed their Region meet scoring 36 points, and placing 3 in the top 5. They're lead by a strong group of juniors and sophomores in Robert Uribe, Wesley Stewart, and Paul Stewart. All three have run 17:15 or faster this year for 5K. Wesley Stewart has run the fastest 2A 5K time this year with his 16:43, which he ran to place 4th at the Union Grove Invitational.

Steven Quintanilla winning Region 1

Another team to keep an eye on are the guys from Sundown who won region by scoring 34 points. They return all seven of their runners from last year's state meet and add in freshmen Steven Quintanilla, who won the individual title in Region 1. Quintanilla has a good shot at winning the state title along with Smyer's Jordan Brown, who is the top returner after finishing 5th at last year's state meet. Brown will have to come back and take down Quintanilla, and his teammate Justin Torres who both beat him at Region 1.
