Endsley talks about Texas Relays at 1:59
We caught up with Ashton Endsley after the Texas Distance festival to talk to her about that race but also the upcoming Texas Relays.
Texas MileSplit: Texas MileSplit I'm here with Ashton Endsley, she won the elite girls 5k tonight running 17:17-17:18 right around there. Talk to me a little bit about your mindset coming into the race, and what kind of your goals were coming into the performance.
Ashton Endsley: Just my mindset going into the race I really wanted to win it. I wasn't really going for time today. I just tried to stay consistent with my pace and then there were a couple girls around me so I just wanted to stay with them, and just try to kick it the last mile and 800.
Texas MileSplit: I think it was Allison Esparza from Southlake who was kinda right there on your hip for the fist mile or so, what was going through your mind? Were you staying relaxed? Confident? What was your mindset?
Ashton Endsley: Yeah I definitely just tried to stay relaxed, but I was kinda happy that she was it was really just a good thing to be able to push me. I think it was really good that she was there.
Texas MileSplit: Got ya! Are you happy with the performance are you happy with the time? Kind of your initial reaction when you saw the clock?
Ashton Endsley: I was happy with the performance I mean I always want my time to be a little bit faster, but I think it was a really good day to come out. I also ran yesterday so it was really good to come out and run a 17:17 after cross country season, and doing this time during track season.
Texas MileSplit: Definitely! What did you run yesterday and where did you run?
Ashton Endsley: I ran at UTA and I did the mile.
Texas MileSplit: Got ya, and how was your performance there and what did you feel and what did you think?
Ashton Endsley: It was good I ran I think a 5:02. I would have wanted to get under five but you know that's ok I wasn't really going for time that day either. I was kind of mostly preparing myself for today.
Ashton Endsley: I'm going to run the 2 mile next week at the Texas Relays so I'm just kind of wanting to go for time and better my time. Hopefully, win that would be really awesome. Honestly I just want to better my time and get some competition and being able to see what I can do.
Texas MileSplit: What are some of the big overlying goals, ya know some big bold predictions for Ashton Endsley this season?
Ashton Endsley: Bettering my time and definitely looking at State I kinda want to better my place, and see what I'm doing there.
Texas MileSplit: Anything else you'd like to add about tonight or about your season in general?
Ashton Endsley: I'm just gonna go out and run and try and do my best.
Texas MileSplit: Awesome, well congratulations on a great performance tonight, and good luck with the whole season ahead.
