Region 1 Preview: Team Battles Highlight All Classifications With State Berth On The Line

Region 1- 4A

Boys (Virtual Meet Preview N/A)

Who Teams: San ElizarioAndrewsLevellandBurkburnett
When: Saturday, October 29th, 9:00am - 9:30am
Why: We don't have full District results from the 4A schools in this region but looking at the teams we do have entered this is going to be a showdown. On the guys side, both the teams from San Elizario and Andrews smoked their districts scoring 18 and 15 points respectively. The San Elizario guys are the defending 4A state champions led by the individual state champion Erick Arambula. Last year in this race Arambula finished 3rd behind two seniors, he will look to claim the Region title this year. He could see some competition from fellow teammates David Ceballos and Ulises Cardoza Cardoza has run the fastest 5K time in Region 1-4A. Another individual to be on the look out for will be Levelland's Isaac Vargas. Vargas won the Lubbock Invitational earlier this year with a time of 16:06.50. That invitational is run on the same course as the region meet.

Girls (Virtual Meet Preview N/A)

When: Saturday, October 29th, 9:00am - 9:30am
Why: Again we don't have the full list of teams and individuals to work with being that we were unable to gather all the results from 4A districts in this region. Some things we can look at from the districts we do have though are the team scores. The battle in this one appears to be tight. The ladies from Andrews crushed their District meet scoring 20 points. They had six girls in the top ten with 1:14 1-5 split. Although we don't have results from District 1- 4A looking at last years results we can assume the Dalhart girls took the win there. They were the 2015 Region champs and lost no one to graduation so they could be considered the favorites again this year. The Burkburnett girls will be looking to shake things up with a strong leader in Madelaine Johnston who finished 2nd last year only behind Levelland's Morgan McCutchen.
