Analysis: La Porte High School has a star in the making. Schoppe was one of the best freshmen in the state last cross season. As a freshman, he finished the season with a couple of sub 16 minute 5Ks. The end of the season also saw him holding his own at the upperclassmen heavy Region III-6A race and running his way to the state meet. At the UIL 6A state cross country championships, Schoppe ran his way to the top 50.
Not only did the youngster have a heck of a cross season, but Schoppe was able to out run most of his competition on the 1600m and 3200m as well. He ran some wicked fast times for a freshman with his 4:25.12 1600m PR and his 9:19.01 at the Texas Relays. After making the state cross country met, he also qualified for the UIL 6A state track meet in the 3200m. Schopped finished the season with a 9:26.87 and a sixth place finish in the 3200m
