Boys Preseason All-State Cross Country 3rd Team

Rank: #16

Name: Pete Johnson

School: Plano West

Graduation Year: 2019

Johnson is an absolute stud. He was one of the fastest runners in the state last year. His season ended in a publicly disappointing fashion.

He ran the course at the UIL 1-6A "Region of Doom" to perfection for 98% of the race. It was the 2% percent that was the problem. He ran all out and so hard until his body gave out in the last 50 meters or so as he fell to the ground and spent minutes trying to get up and finish, but could not. At the time of the fall, he was in a sure position to qualify the UIL 6A state cross country meet before having to receive medical attention.

Johnson did not use that as an excuse as he got right back on the saddle and competed very well at NXR South where he finished 18th and at the Foot Locker South Region.

He ran to a 15:32.80 5K PR for the 2018 cross season and then he had himself a heck of a track season that was full of more PRs. He ran 1:56.16, 4:14.76, and 9:24.21 and a big time seventh place finish in the 1600m at the Texas Relays.

Johnson will be one of the top runners all season long in the state and should be fun to watch again!
