Rank: #9
Name: Isabel Van Camp
School: Keller
Graduation Year: 2019
Last year, we....I failed to include Van Camp in the top 25 for the preseason team. Trust me, I heard about it all season long, but thanks to Van Camp, I also had to witness just how wrong I was. Van Camp looked to be the #3 returner on the outstanding and nationally ranked Keller squad when the season began. However, she had other plans. before mid season Van Camp demonstrated that she wasn't just a track kid and a piece to the Keller puzzle, but she was "The piece" to the Keller puzzle as she became the #1 girl on the best team in the state for much of the season.
Van Camp who hadn't run faster than 18:15 prior to last year had five sub 18 minute 5ks inclucing a 17:44 at the Chile Pepper Cross Country Festival for a runner-up finish. She finished the season just as well as imagined with a win at district, third at regionals, ninth at state, seventh at NXR South, and a 41st place finish at NXN.
She then excelled once again on the track as she blazed to a 1:01.72, 2:10.20 for second at UIL 6A state meet, and 4:56.27. Van Camp also ran 10:50.67 for the win at the Texas Distance Festival in the 3200m.
After selling her short last year, this year I legitimately ask myself if Van Camp can win the UIL 6A state meet this fall.
