Austin Magness Finishes Strong To Win the UIL 1A 3200m

1A Boys 3200

A year after finishing ninth in the 2A Boys 3200-meter run, Paint Rock's Austin Magness crossed the line in a different position -- as the 1A Boys 3200-meter state champion. His final split of 1:07.92 capped off a race that was 42 seconds faster than his time a year ago. The junior pulled away in the final two laps to hold off the comeback efforts from Follett's Julian Barton, who finished second with a time of 10:11.63.

Barton was fourth going into the bell lap but his strong kick put him in the silver medal spot. The sophomore ran the fastest bell lap of all competitors, clocking in at 1:06.72.

Landon Cobb, the Graford sophomore who was the leader up until the final lap, held onto the final podium spot with a time of 10:13.08.
