UIL 4A Girls 100

If there was anything to be sure of in the girls 4A 100-meter dash, it's that it was going to be fast and come down to the wire.

A clean start across the field, Madison Holmes of El Campo looked to take control early but was being chased by last year's silver medalist Carde Moore of Houston North Forest. In the end, just four thousandths of a second separated the two as Holmes took the crown.

Baleigh Cashion was right in the mix, taking the final podium spot with a time of 11.93. The Paris senior had a strong finish to reclaim herself as the bronze medalist from a year ago.

Ashtyn Lewis may be young but she hasn't shied away from the big stage.

Last year's state champion from Iowa Colony took things up a notch and protected her crown with another win in the Class 4A Girls 400-meter dash. Her winning time of 54.31 was well ahead of the rest of the field.

The sophomore jumped out to a favorable lead with a split just around the 25 second mark and finished strong down the back stretch.

Also making an impression was another underclassmen. Sunnyvale sophomore Chiora Enyinna-Okeigbo maintained pace with the field and took second with a time of 56.10. The bronze medal came just moments after taking third in the 100-meter hurdles.

Krum's Maggie Neal rounded out the podium with a time of 56.21. She collected her second medal of the day after finishing as the runner-up in the 800-meter run.

Jasmine Franklin not only won the title last season, but the Paris senior entered the race with the fastest qualifying time in the 200-meter dash and showed no signs of slowing down this time around.

After rounding the curve with ease, Franklin cruised down the final straightaway, winning with a time of 24.18.

Following just behind her was sophomore superstar Ashtyn Lewis from Iowa Colony. She ran a time of 24.32 to finish as runner-up moments after setting a new girls Class 4A 400-meter dash record.

Also carrying over some momentum was El Campo's Madison Holmes. The freshman took the title in the 100-meter dash and showed another glimpse of that speed with a third place finish and a time of 24.44.
