PFLUGERVILLE-- It was a great day for cross country. The Girls 5A race started at 8am with a cool 74 degrees. As soon as the race started Round Rock Stoney Point sr Melanie Enriquez took it out from the start. She had a 100m lead at the halfway point (Photo Below) Round Rock Cedar Ridge edged out Round Rock Westwood 91-96.
Melanie Enriquez kept the hard pace throughout to win in an impressive 18:19. The time breaks the meet/course record. The time also ranks her #7 in the state rankings.
Klarissa Lou (Westwood) Places 2nd in 19:24
The men's race had a little bit of more drama. A tight group of five boys were in contention at the halfway point. The group included Seniors Jordan Wright (Marble Falls), Joseph Meade (Round Rock Stoney Point), and Esteban Villalpando (Buda Hays)
Jordan Wright took control of the race after the halfway point slowly pulling away and breaking up the pack. Joseph Meade made a strong move with about 800m to go and went past Jordan and closed very well to win the race in a quick 16:04 (5:09 pace).
The team battle was a good one. Round Rock Cedar Ridge edged out 3A #8 Giddings 74-90. Giddings looked really good today putting 3 in the top 16. The match up between 3A #8 and 3A #4 Liberty Hill never materialized as they raced in different divisions today but Giddings edged Libery Hill in total time. Total time adds up the top 5 runners times. Giddings had 1:26.40 while Liberty Hill had 1:29.45.
