ROUND ROCK – It was the fastest cross country race Southlake Carroll sophomore Tara Upshaw has run, but she said that achievement was secondary.

"The state championship was definitely the best part," Upshaw said. Her time of 11 minutes, 4.40 seconds Saturday at Old Settlers Park earned her third place and helped her team repeat as Class 5A girls cross country champions.

Her schoolmate, junior Colby Lowe, won the 5A individual boys title in 15:05.15.

Rounding out the scorers on Carroll's girls team, Taylor Stephens finished 24th in 11:40.70, Christina Ferber was 26th in 11:42.20, Kirsten Brown was 34th in 11:48.50 and Emily Denny was 49th in 11:58.45.
