This weekend we raced at the McNeil Invitational. I love this meet because it's at my favorite course and it's the perfect chance to race some of the best competition in the state on the state course. (Also, it's a travel meet for us so getting to miss some school is an added bonus.) Going into the race my goal was to finish top 10. In order to do this I was hoping to take the mile out really hard and then hang on to the lead pack as long as possible. I know that on the back part of this course there aren't really fans and it's easy to get lost mentally so I really tired to prepare myself for that. The mile went out fast which was perfect and I stayed attached with the lead group until about 2 miles when the leader took off. I ended up finishing 5th with a new PR. I was incredibly happy with how the race went and I was so excited that Abby finished right behind me. We do all of our workouts together so it's really nice to see all the hard work paying off for the best of us. It was really exciting that me & my teammates had a good race, but even though the race was at the state course, state medals weren't handed out Saturday. We still have lots of work to do if we want to accomplish the individual and team goals we have made, but he team is happy with how we did and we are looking forward to this upcoming weekend and the championship season!
