Theo Goff placing 9th at NXN South Photo By: Travis Miller
Two weekends ago Theo Goff qualified for NXN. It was only the Oak Ridge juniors first NXN South race. Despite the conditions he came away finishing 9th to earn his chance to run with the nations best at NXN. We asked Goff a few questions about NXN, what he was most excited for, his best memories so far this season and more in our Q&A below!
Texas MileSplit: You made a huge jump from last year (66th) to this year (9th) at NXN South. What helped to contribute to that jump? How has training been different between the two years?
Theo Goff: Honestly the training was not very different it was just that when I saw what I could do I decided to be the best that I could be and it shows in my workouts and even more in my races.
Texas MileSplit: You had a tough race at state, how did you change your focus coming in to NXN?
Theo Goff: The state race was a huge eye opener to what this sport requires to be the best. And because of that I knew what I had to do to race well at NXR.
Texas MileSplit: What was your emotion when you realized you qualified?
Theo Goff: Honestly making it to NXN was nothing but an unrealistic goal/ or a dream. So when I found out it has all became reality I realized that my goals are not high enough. I didn't believe it until I laid in bed and thought about what I did and it all hit me.
Texas MileSplit: What are you most excited for having the chance to compete at NXN?
Theo Goff: I am most excited about racing with the best guys in the nation. It is just a whole other level I have never been on.
Texas MileSplit: How has training been the past two weeks leading into NXN?
Theo Goff: The training has been difficult I have never worked out alone but I know the workouts I have done will secure me for this race Saturday.
Fun Questions:
Texas MileSplit: If you were an animal what kind of an animal would you be and why?
Theo Goff: Dolphin because they are cute and can kill sharks and sleep swim and girls love Dolphins.
Texas MileSplit: Favorite pre and post race food?
Theo Goff: Pre workout , pre pre workout, post workout and creatine ... Jk it's subway
Texas MileSplit: The Quan or the Nae Nae?
Theo Goff: I am going to stick with the classic and say the Soulja Boy.
Texas MileSplit: Favorite pro athlete (any sport), and why?
Theo Goff: Steve Prefontaine because he had the most heart when he races
Texas MileSplit: Would you rather fight one horse-sized duck or one hundred duck-sized horses?
Theo Goff: Well let's break it down...If you fight 1 horses sized duck you you'll look so cool and have an awesome taxidermy to put over your mantle in the winter. But if you fight 100 duck sized horses you and lost you would look like you don't lift. And you would look like a notable person for killing all those baby horses ... I choose the big duck.
