Four Fast Takeaways From Marcus I!

Keller Girls Are Good

In my mind the Keller girls proved they are the team to beat this year. We knew they were looking to come into the season and make a statement. They did just that. They returned all of their top seven from 2015 and ran into 2016 in dominant fashion. As a team, they scored 64 points this year which was 13 points ahead of Southlake. Like we said this is partly due to the fact that they returned everyone while powerhouse teams like Marcus and Southlake lost several graduating seniors in the class of 2015. On top of that Keller has gained two freshmen studs in Vera Thompson and Makenna PalloziNow things are still very early in the season but comparing Marcus I results from this years to last Keller girls look to be in the same shape as the Marcus ladies were in 2015 at this time. If you look below Marcus went 1, 4, 9, 10, and 24 in 2015 while Keller went 3, 5, 7, 21, and 28 in 2016. Fator in that Ashton Endsley ran alone (without her team) which decreases Marcus's score by one point in 2016. All said and done the two teams don't look all that different at this point in the season, with a little boost from their 4th and 5th runners (who are the two freshmen one in her first race ever) Keller could have scored as low this year, as Marcus did last year. Now again it's still early and many teams aren't running at full strength. Some may be coming off a hard few months of summer training others like Marcus could be dealing with sickness or injury. Quinn Owen one of Marcus's best returning runners didn't run on Saturday reportedly due to sickness. Factoring in things like this Keller is not a lock for the 6A state championship come November, but they are one of the favorites.

P.S. They told us in their interview they're looking to go undefeated this year.
