TX MileSplit Pick Six: Brianna Robles

La Joya Palmview junior, Brianna Robles is undefeated so far this year. Fresh off of her TAMUCC Islander Splash victory, Robles does a Pick Six with TX MileSplit.

1. TX MileSplit: This past weekend, we saw you win the Islander Splash.  How did it feel winning a big time meet like that and how does it feel to be undefeated on the year?

Brianna:  It marked off one of my goals for this year.  I have been trying to win this meet since my freshman year and I'm glad it finally happened.

2. TX MileSplit: You have been improving drastically from year to year, in both Cross Country and Track.  What have been the key contributing factors to your improvements?

Brianna: Lots of mileage is all I can say.  I built up a base in the summer by running twelve miles each day and picking up the mileage week after week.  That has been a huge factor as to why I am able to perform the way I have this year.

3. TX MileSplit: What are your goals for the remainder of the Cross Country season and for the upcoming spring track season?

Brianna: My goals are to basically make it out.  I made it to State last year in Cross Country, so my goal is to win Regionals and give it my all in State to be able to place in the top.  As for track, my goal is to make it out of Regionals.  I was one spot short last year and I don't want to make the same mistake this year.  I enjoy track more, so I took it hard when I didn't qualify for State.

4. TX MileSplit: Last year, you placed 40th at the State Cross Country meet and you currently have the 13th fastest 5K time.  What are some things you feel you can work on to get you on the awards stand this year?

Brianna:  All I have to do is enter with a strong mentality.  I can't be afraid and I have to believe I belong there.  If I believe I can do anything and fight that demon inside me telling me to stop and then I just need to keep going.

5. TX MileSplit: At the Islander Splash this weekend, we saw your dad all over the course yelling and cheering for you.  What does the friends and family support mean to you and your athletic career?

Brianna: My family and friends mean a lot. At each race my parents and my special friend are always there supporting me. This weekend was a bonus because my brother came from college in San Antonio to see me.  They are my rock and they help me stay strong.

6. TX MileSplit: What are some of the college programs you're considering to continue your education and running career at?

Brianna: Arkansas is a school I am interested in and also the University of Houston is also on my mind, but my options are open.  I don't have my mind set on any school in particular.  I'm waiting to see what schools have to offer.
