Daniel Viegra returned in dominant fashion Friday night dropping a 15:01.21 to win the Austin Westlake Invitational. This was Viegra's first meet back in since last year's district meet. The Pflugerville Hendrickson senior had been battling injury but appears to be back in full form after running the 9th fastest 5K time in the state on Friday night. Viegra helped his team capture the team title as well scoring 73 points. In 2014 he finished 4th at the state meet and 10th at the Nike South Regional Meet. In 2015 he won almost every meet he raced until an injury sidelined his season. If he can remain healthy he will be a guy to watch at this year's state meet.
In the girl's race, Vista Ridge's Helen Roddy pulled off a close win over Hays Buda's Gabby Bosquez. Roddy dropped a 18:21.51 to take the win. The overall team title was won by the ladies from Cedar Park. Watch all race videos from the Austin Westlake Invitational here.
