Monday Minute Write Up

It's Monday that means it's time for the Monday Minute, so many big things happened this weekend with the UIL Regional meets. So who says XC isn't hype?

Ok so let's kick things off up in Lubbock at Region 1. The teams from El Paso came to represent on Saturday and it started off early with the 4A Boys. San Elizario guys dominated led by Erick Arambula they scored 22 points. Class 5A was ruled by freshmen on the guys side, Graydon Morris from Aledo took the win while Michael Abeyta from you guessed it, El Paso Hanks took 3rd.

The 5A Boys team race was a showdown between El Paso Austin and Grapevine that was ultimately decided by a single point. Austin reigned victorious as they were on the winning end of a 93-94 score. 5A girls saw Lauren Edwards from Grapevine take the individual win while Canyon Randall smoked the competition scoring 58 points to Canyon's 77.

In 6A Ashton Endsley smoked the competition, while the Southlake girls finally got a win over Keller 41 to 52. On the guys side the battle between Reed Brown and Alex Maier raged on, with Brown remaining dominant over Maier taking the win by less than a second. Daniel Bernal took 3rd and led El Paso Eastwood to a 2nd place finish with 127 points, while Southlake took the win.

The El Paso area domination continued with Tornillo in the 3A boys race. They scored 28 points to take the win. Could definitely challenge Luling for the 3A state title? Speaking of Luling they also dominated the Region 4 Meet in Corpus Christi scoring 27 points they placed all of their top 5 in the top 10!

Also in region 4 Sam Worley has come into full form, he led his team to victory taking the win running 15:38.40. In the girls race Austin Vandegrift claimed the team title scoring 93 points, while Beth Ramos from Edinburg North took the individual win. In class 5A Boerne Champion girls secured the team win while Donna North took the guys team title with 51 points.  Ace Castillo from Tuloso Midway was the individual champion running a 15:45. Donna North's big win could make the class 5A state meet  interesting between them and Lovejoy.

Lovejoy boys won 5A Region 2 with 40 points led by Grant Tiff who finished 4th. Sergio Armendariz claimed the individual win in 15:58. In 5A Region 2 girls action freshmen London Culbreath from McKinney North took the individual win while Carrie Fish from Liberty finished 2nd and Abby Williams from Proser finished 3rd. Prosper claimed the team title over Frisco Liberty 51 to 63.

Up to 6A The Woodlands guys and girls won scoring 41 points and 56 points. Lourdes Vivas from The Woodlands took the individual win while Daniel Viegra won the individual guys battle against William Hunsdale.

The closest battle for a state berth was the Region 2-4A boys. Decatur missed qualifying by one point, and winning the entire thing by only five points! In 3A action Eustace claimed both team titles with the girls scoring 41 points and the guys scoring 53.

Lastly, Region 3 where the big highlight was Julia Heymach dominating the competition by almost  two minutes. On the guy's side, Ryan Yerrow led Katy to a first place team finish scoring 66 points.

In 5A action, both team champions pulled out major upsets. No. 12 Flo 50 ranked Willis boys and the No. 13 ranked College Station high girls edging out some higher ranked teams.
