USATF Cross Country Championships

Several Texas athletes competed in USATF Cross Country Championships in Indianapolis, Indiana. The race qualifies the top six individuals to compete in the World Cross Country Championships held in Brussels, Belgium. Their are six races. The Men have Senior 4k and 12k and a Junior 8k. The Women have Senior 4k and 8k and Junior 6k.

The Junior Girls race was represented well by current high school athletes and former outstanding high school athletes. Leading the charge was Former Prep standout from Langham Creek and now Baylor Brittany Brockman. Brittany qualified for Worlds with a 21:37 good enough for 6th place. Rachel Forish led the charge for current high school preps in 22:14 (13th) followed by Erin Bedell 22:17 (15th), Lyndsy Bedell 22:26 (17th), Krystal Rodriguez 23:01 (22nd), Tara Gruber 23:08 (24th), Carlene Mayfield 24:02 (33rd), and Marianne Fusselman 24:36 (39th).

The highlight of the Junior Boys race was the victory by former Highland Park runner Pete Janson. Pete won the Junior 8k race in 24:14. The victory will give Pete the opportunity to represent USA at the World Cross Country Championships in Brussels Belgium. He is currently a freshman for the Buffaloes of Colorado.
