Andrea Sanchez Interview

The 2A Girls Race from State

Texas MileSplit: How does it feel to win the 2A race at state?
Andrea Sanchez: It feels amazing to win back the title.

How did you prepare for the state race? Did you prepare for this one differently than you have prepared for other races this season?
For the State meet when did more of short distance workout like Monday-3miles, Tuesday- flying 200's, Wednesday-off day, Thursday-squares, Friday-swam.

Do you feel the bigger schools have an advantage at cross country meets over the smaller schools and why?
Yes because the 5A and 6A run 3 miles and they have time to catch up if they didn't have a good start, but also no because the 1-4A have a shorter distance and it goes by pretty fast.

What/who is your motivation to run and why?
My Brother (Maurice Sanchez)  and Coach Darden, they made me fall in love with the sport, they pushed me to realize I was amazing at the sport.

What does a week of XC training typically involve for you?
I work my butt off every day in Cross Country

Why did you start running cross country?
Because I fell in love with the sport, it was my stress reliever and realized it was my talent.

Have you started looking at colleges yet, and if so where are you looking?
Yes, I have started looking at college, I'm thinking about 1 Division or 2 Division (Texas Tech, Texas A&M, ACU, LCU, WT A&M, ASU...etc).

When will you begin training for Track season?
I don't know when I will start because I'm in basketball, but I hope to go to the State Championships for Basketball in March.

What are your personal goals for Track this season?
My personal goals are to win the 3200m and 1600m, but also try for the 800m or 400m.

What is your favorite memory from this XC season?

My favorite memory was when I won individual and as a team.
