Legendary Texas A&M head coach Pat Henry has been announced as a member of the Texas Sports Hall of Fame (TSHOF). Henry is one of seven Class of 2017 honorees who will be inducted into the TSHOF on Tuesday, February 21 in Waco, Texas.
Henry is now in his 13th season with the Aggies. During that time he has won eight outdoor track and field championships, including three consecutive men's and women's titles from 2009-11. He's coached countless national champions and All-Americans while at A&M. Before coaching in College Station, he was the head coach at LSU, and in 1989 he became the first coach to win both the men's and women's NCAA Outdoor Championships in the same season.
Henry is not a Texas native but his grandfather, Gwinn Henry, was born in Eden, TX, and was the head football coach at Howard Payne in Brownwood before stints at Kansas, Missouri, and New Mexico.
"The honor of being selected to become a part of the Texas Sports Hall of Fame is profound for me. I'm not a native Texan, but my family roots are in Texas; my grandfather coached in Texas," Henry told the TSHOF. "This kind of award involves a lot of people -- my wife and family, current, and former assistant coaches and current and former athletes and institution administrations. This is a great honor for me and a privilege to represent Texas A&M University."
Henry's hall of fame induction adds to a long list of accolades he has earned throughout his career. Below is a list of his teams' finishes at the NCAA championships.
