Peer 2 Peer: Texas Relays Edition

TX MileSplit will be doing a new piece where we have two peers from a certain event or common area ask each other questions. It might be athlete to athlete or it might be coach to coach.

With Texas Relays coming up this weekend, we selected two young ladies who are coming off some awesome personal performances and who will be competing against one another at the Texas Relays. KENNEDY SMITH of The Woodlands and Houston Lamar's MILAN YOUNG are two of Texas' top 100m hurdlers. Smith recently PRed in both hurdle races with 13.74 and 43.67 performances as did Young with her 13.56 and 41.70.

Check it out as these two young ladies learn a little more about each other.

Milan Asks & Kennedy Answers

Milan - What goals are you wanting to accomplish this season in the 100 hurdles and 300 hurdles?
Kennedy - My goals for the 100 hurdles is to medal at state. I don't have a set destination goal for the 300 hurdles but I want to get my school record which is 42.9!

Milan - What is your preparation like before a track meet? Hurdle/Sprint practices/favorite drills?
Kennedy - My coach works us out hard on Monday and Wednesday with lots of long and fast running and then I like to go over hurdles the other 3 days in the week before my meets on Saturday. I don't really have a favorite drill I just like to go over the hurdle and then self adjust.

Milan - Which season (indoor or outdoor) do you like the best? Why?
Kennedy - I like outdoor season because high schools don't really do indoor and the best part about track for me, is getting to go through the experiences, highs, and lows as a team.

MilanWhat made you choose to attend A&M?
Kennedy - I chose A&M because it felt right when I was there. The people on the team and the coaches were so nice and I was genuinely comfortable when I was around them. The school itself has such a great reputation that I was somewhat awestruck and I liked the thought of being a part of something so big.

MilanAre you going to your senior prom? With who? --Tell me about the dress/color/length/accessories?
Kennedy I actually am hoping that I can't go to prom! I'm not sure how, but my school's prom always happens to fall on the same day as State, so I would gladly take the track over the dance! But if I'm at state and I finish in time to make it I do have a big group I'm in and a good friend as my date. I didn't want to get a dress because I didn't want to jinx it lol!

(But if I were to get a dress it would definitely stand out and be flashy! If you can't tell from my track meet attire, I enjoy being very "extra" in everything I do!!)
