Alandra Sherman Impresses!

Alandra Sherman has started out her 2004 Outdoor track season very impressively. In her opening race of the season, she posted an elite mark of 14.52 at The Woodlands Invitational. This week she posted another fast elite time in the 100H with a quick 13.71. This time makes her the fastest of the season for the state of Texas. What makes this even more impressive is that the victory came over Jessica Ohanaja (Houston Westbury) who\'s time is second best in Texas with 13.84. Jessica placed 3rd in the 2003 UIL State Track Championships. Jessica and Alandra should be going head to head for the title, and perhaps the record books, in Austin at the State Meet in May. Alandra ran a 13.24 in 2003. The time is only one hundredths off the state record of 13.23. Alandra has a great chance to make her mark on the record books. When asked what inspired her to run the hurdles, Alandra answered \"I can\'t say my mom, because when I first told my mom that I was running the hurdles she was kind of surprised. She didn\'t even tell me she ran hurdles until after the first or second meet. I would probably have to say my Jr. high coach. He saw that I had raw talent and speed. He was a hurdler in high school and college and he was like \"just try it, let me see what you can do.\"\".

Alandra signed a letter of intent to join the Texas Longhorn team next year. I, for one, am very glad that I will have the great opportunity of watching Alandra compete here in Texas for the next 4 years
