Region 1-6A has long been appropriately given the AKA of the "Region of Doom." If you want to know why, just research the history. Over the years, there have been a plethora of both quality teams and individuals who have not qualified for the state meet when they were very fast. 

The past qualifying standards were just unforgiving for those that were either not on their A game at regionals or were just not fast enough to be the top two teams or the top 10 individuals. In 2014, the UIL expanded the qualifying standards to the top four teams and the top 10 individuals (who are not already on the advancing teams) to advance from regional to the state meet.

The new standards definitely enable more teams and individuals to qualify for the state meet, but it also makes things a little more relaxed and gives the opportunity for more to experience the state meet. However, in a region as loaded with talent as the Region o...
