In fact, she already did that yesterday with two races in the 60H at the Texas Tech Open.  Hollis ran a 8.70 in the prelims to give her the seventh fastest spot and qualifying her for the finals later last evening. Placing second in her heat and seventh out of over 30 entries had to have given Hollis some confidence. If not, how about improving her spot on the high school national list?

Hollis who already had a season best 8.71 was tied for #10 in the nation. The 8.70 moves her out of the tie for #10 in the rankings to holding that spot all alone.

Hollis did not getting out of sorts against older girls must have made her felt like she belonged. She demonstrated how composed and mature she is as an athlete. How much older are the rest of the girls in the field? Who knows, but Hollis is still only fifteen years old

In the finals, Hollis proved that preliminary races wasn't a fluke. She showed consistency doubling right back in the finals to run another 8.70 for seventh place over all.

Today, Hollis will be right back on the track for the 200m at 2:00 p.m. Other Texas high school athletes will also compete today against collegiate and post collegiate competition at the Texas Tech Open.
