Going Back To Cali: Texans Travel To Compete At Woodbridge

We've seen the Southlake Carroll squads take their show on the road to Woodbridge over the last couple of years. We've also seen a couple of other individual runners from Texas make the trek to the West.

Last year, we saw The Woodlands girls travel out to Cali to get a piece of the West Coast action. This year, there are a couple of other squads heading out to get a piece of the super fast Woodbridge Classic.

Once again, Carroll will give the Californians a dose of Texas Tea as they take a full girls and boys squads to compete in the Sweepstakes race as well as a second boys team to compete in the Rated race once again.

Carroll has tested their speed out at the fast course over the last several years. The Woodbridge meet has a course that is well known for being fast and producing some very quick 3 mile times over the last several years. Perhaps, this has helped lead to some success for the Dragons as they have continue to run at an elite level state and nation wide.

The Carroll girls have been on a roll the last two years. At the UIL 6A state meet, they have exhibited their ability to run fast at the state meet. In 2016, they had three girls run under 19 minutes and then they had a19:40  team average last year.

The boys have been just as fast. In 2016, they ran a 15:43 team average as some of their top runners blazed the state meet course. Last year, they dazzled the spectators at the state meet as their entire top five scorers ran sub 16:00 at the state meet to run a 15:41 team average.

Carroll brings the speed each year, and it could be on display tonight. It can't be overlooked that Carroll squads have continued to qualify for NXN.

El Paso Eastwood will also run a girls and boys team at Woodbridge tonight.

The girls will line up in the Rated race and the boys will shoot their top guns in the Sweepstakes race. Eastwood is looking to get a resume builder on the season as they take on a national level meet. This will hopefully give them the consideration they can use for a NXN berth if needed.

Of course, they will go for an automatic qualifying spot, but a big time race here will bid well for both teams.

Last week, we saw the Eastwood JV boys run a heck of a race at the San Elizario - Tornillo Inv. as they ran to a 16:23 team average proving that they are one of the top second units in the nation. They will add some of their varsity runners with some of those runners from last week to put out a fast group to take on the Californians.

The girls from Coppell are having an excellent season so far, and they are looking to continue that this weekend.

They are taking their top seven to Woodbridge to get a good race in and they are itching to race. Coppell is currently the #2 overall ranked team in the MileSplit50 Texas rankings. They have handled the Texas scene farily well this season with a win at Friday Night Lights and a second place finish behind TX #1 Flower Mound at Marcus I.

The two time UIL 4A individual champion Emily Garcia from Alvarado will take her girls to Woodbridge as well. Alvarado finished third last year at the 4A state meet in the team standings and look to be gunning for the top spot this year.

Alvarado returns their entire top seven from last season and the sky is the limit as they have been running fast and smart all season long. A good performance tonight could set them up pretty well for the rest of the Texas season.

One more Texas state meet qualifying team will be competing tonight at Woodbridge. The Montgomery girls have been pretty good over the last couple of years.

Looking to continue that streak, the Lady Bears have taken their show on the road as they will compete this evening in the girls Sweepstakes race with the big dawgs.

Montgomery will be looking to their top two runners Halena Rahmaan and Allison Wilson to help lead them once again. Rahmaan and Wilson have been two of the top runners in Texas the last two years. They'll be looking to use their national level experience to help their team prepare for the race tonight. The Montgomery girls qualified for the UIL 6A state meet last year as a team, but to have their two leaders to share their experience and composure from NXN and Foot Locker Nationals to help guide them through tonight is an advantage.
