Matthew Boling's 2019 season was already off to a great start, but today it got even better
Matthew Boling has been an enigma since his freshman year. Back when he was just in the ninth grade, there were rumors of his ability to run 50.x in the 400m. Then, he popped up in the varsity meets and he did just what he was rumored to do.
By the end of his freshman year in 2016, he had gone 50.42 in the 400m, 6-4 in the high jump, 22-4 in the long jump, and 42-4.5 in the triple jump.
Since those days back in 2016, things have drastically changed. He has improved on many of those marks and today one of them was improved upon in a big way. Boling jumped a 25-0.5 in the long jump. The 2018 UIL 6A state champion just became even more of a favorite for this year's state title as well.
"When I hit the board and the pop-up off the board feels good, usually I know it's a going to be a good jump," Boling said. It was in fact a good jump, but it wasn't his only good jump of the day. Boling would have two 24 footers in his first couple of jumps before the 25 footer.
By the end of last season, Boling's stats drastically improved to 21.20 in the 200m, 46.15 in the 400m, and 24-2.75 in the long jump.
As of today, he has done well contributing to his team's 41.08 in the 4x100 relay, 1:26.05 in the 4x200 relay, and 3:14.46 in the 4x400 relay. He had also gone 23-1 and 23-0 prior to today's long jump competition. Next, is to see what he opens up with in the 200m and 400m. If his performances in those events follow suit like how the long jump went, then we will see even more eye popping stats from the University of Georgia signee.
