It's that time of year. Relay meets are beginning to come to an end and athletes are starting to fill it up in the open events.
That goes for Omajuwa Etiwe as well. The El Paso Franklin coaching staff must have known that this weekend he was ready to bust something impressive in the 400m. That is exactly what he did. With a 49.72 and a 51.99 on the season already, this weekend, Etiwe blew those marks out of the water when he ran a 48.18 PR. Etiwe said, "It was really hard, but I got through it."
"My biggest thing is just mentality. I just gotta know that I can do everything I put my mind to and I just gotta set out and do it and not double think myself."

Etiwe isn't just a 400m runner. He is an old school sprinter, the type that runs the 100m - 400m events. He has season bests of 10.86, 22.44 and now a 48.18. " I just went 48.1, so my goal is like a 47.7 and for the 100, I think I can go 10.6, 10.7," he said.

Just a junior, Etiwe currently sits as the top 400m runner in the West Texas Rankings. He also ranks #3 in the 100m and #6 in the 200m. Overall, he is currently the #5 400m hurdler in the entire state with plans to move up.
