Cameron Wilmington (L) and Nathan Franco (R) are near the top of national hurdle rankings so far in 2020
We saw Cameron Wilmington and Nathan Franco look impressive in the 60H prelim rounds last weekend at the Texas A&M High School Indoor Classic. Then the two blessed us with a dazzling finals race where Wilmington won the meet as he followed up his prelim 8.14 with a 8.00. Franco dropped two gem type races, first with his prelim 8.02 and then 8.06 to finish runner-up.
Over this past weekend, at the Arkansas High School Invitational the two hurdlers turned things up a notch.
Wilmington, the Fort Bend Elkins senior went cruised a 8.15 in the first round. But, It was the Fort Worth Chisholm Trail senior Franco who was really feeling it early in the afternoon. He busted an elite 7.98 to get the premium lane for the finals.
The Arkansas finals race proved to be even better than the previous A&M final between the two. Again, a close race with the two speedsters putting on a show in the middle of the track. The difference was how fast they ran.
Franco had already broke the 8.00 barrier earlier in the day and he was ready to run faster -- In the finals, he did. In fact, both he and Wilmington did.
The Texas hurdle boys ran an epic race as Wilmington ran to a US No. 2 and Arkansas Inv. No.4 All-Time 7.90. Franco improved from the prelims and added a second sub 8.00 by going US No. 3 7.92.
