Garison Breeding Goes From Unknown To US No.2 Triple Jumper

Midland Christian senior Garison Breeding won the Texas Tech Under Armour HS Classic

Garison Breeding is the second best triple jumper in the nation, but he isn't the most well known athlete in the state of Texas.

In fact, he might have been one of the most seldom known in the state. Reason being, partly because Breeding is a TAPPS athlete out of Midland, Texas. When you think of the best athletes in Texas, you usually first think of the ones in the UIL.

Well, the Midland Christian senior triple jumper proved last year that he can compete with the UIL. At the Texas Track and Field Coaches Association Meet of Champions (TTFCA) Breeding placed second in the meet against state champions and top performers from all over Texas with a 47-2.5 jump.

At the TAPPS 6A state meet, Breeding PRed with a  48-0.25. However, that wasn't good enough for him and it wasn't going to make him a top recruit.

This indoor season, things have been different. Breeding started the 2020 season by competing in Houston at the FasTrak HS, Youth & Masters Opener, where he opened up with aa 49-4.75. That was by far the best performance of his career. To reach the level he has reached, things had to change, and they did.

"A big part of it, I decided not to play football this year and so I was just able to focus full time on track and really focus on developing my strength and speed for the triple jump instead of football, Breeding said."

That extra time, focus, and training for this season has paid off immensely, "More specifying has helped me build a whole lot more strength for the jumps and be able to work through my phases better." Breeding has yet to lose a competition this season and his ability has appeared to reach another level. He is currently the second ranked jumper in the country.

This weekend, he added two more 49 foot jumps with a 49-9.75 and a 49-2. "I feel good, I feel better than I have and the results are definitely showing," Breeding said.

The Midland Christian senior hasn't signed to compete in college yet, but the way he has improved and with his desire, it's only a matter of time.
