Watch LIVE on MileSplit
This weekend, the Summer Creek Generation Park Invitational will be streamed LIVE on MileSplit. It will have some of the most powerful and explosive track and field teams in Texas.
some of the top programs in Houston will go ahead and head to head, Including the 2019 UIL 5A boys team champions and the 6A team champions
That means the Fort Bend Marshall And the Klein Forest boys will do battle. Both teams have relays and individuals who have already started the season off with a bang.
On the girls side, you'll have more State champions. The 2019 200m state camp Laila Owens will bring her fort Bend Bush team and battle Summer Creek junior and 2019 400m state champ Dynasty McClennon, along with other outstanding girls teams. There is also 2018 UIL 6A 800m champion Wonders Oguejiofor who will compete in several events.
Here is who and what to watch for.
Girls Preview
This meet is sprint loaded and it will possibly be the best meet of the year so far.
The 100m could see Klein Forest junior A'niya Galloway, who is one of the top sprinters in the Houston metro area. Galloway has a PR of 11.71 and will lock up with 2019 UIL 5A fourth place state meet 100m finisher Victoria Wright. Summer Creek's Brandy Broxton will be another competitor to watch out for as she has a 11.77 PR.
The girls 200m and 400m could be super loaded!
The 200m could potentially have an Owens and McClennon match up. That would pit two 6A state champs along with Galloway, Broxton, and Wright.
The 400m, might also pair up the two state champs along with another state champ in Oguejiofor. If that's not exciting enough, look for Fort Bend Marshall's Cesley Williams, Jailynn Smith, and Alexandria Ruth to add more magnesium to the spark. All three Lady Buffalos ran 55s last year, with Williams placing second last year at the UIL 5A state 400m finals.
All three relays will be showdowns between Summer Creek, Shadow Creek, Cy Springs, Cy Falls, Klein Forest, Marshall, and Manvel.
Boys Preview
Let's waste no time on getting to the good part on this one.
Klein Forest and Fort Bend Marshall are defending team state champions in the largest two UIL divisions. This year, they have given us plenty to look forward to for the second half of the season.
Klein Forest's opening weekend of the season produced All-time marks in all three relays (41.09, 1:24.52, and 3:15.96) for the month of February. As of today, that 4x100 Relay time is the TX No. 3 time. As for the other two relays......well, they're only still US. NO. 1s. Marshall came back a week later and dropped a 40.98 to take the top state and national spot in that relay.
Shadow Creek, Manvel, Alief Taylor, Northshore, and Summer Creek are all relay and sprint powers themselves in the Houston area and the state. All of these teams have medaled at the state meet several times over the last five years. They will do anything but lay down for Klein Forest and Marshall.
The individual events also have plenty of star power. There are tons of state meet medalists from last year.
In the 100m and 200m, we could see new state leaders if everyone lines up. Fort Bend Marshall has Bryson Stubblefield, Devon Achane, Everett Tippins, Malik Hornsby, and John Gentry are all capable of dropping low 10s and low 21s. Achane already has a liftetime 20.46 best and is the top 200m runner in the nation based on that.
The boys 800m will showcase eight boys who have already run 2:00 and under this year. Darius Rainey and Adam Mason had great indoor marks and could be the pacers of this one.
The hurdles will feature two of Texas' best so far this season. Barry Richards busted a 13.83 in the 110H last weekend and Chris Brinkley has a 37.41 in the 300H. Both are ranked in TX top five in their respective events.
Caleb Malbrough of Manvel and Klein Forest's Maurice Westmoreland will be busy in the field events and both are state meet qualifiers. Malbrough is one of Texas' top jumpers and could compete in all three. He his 48-1.5 PR will lead the triple jumpers, but he will get competition from Taylor Leonard and Ettiene Ntakirutimana.
Northshore jumpers will give him a run in the other two jumps. Shemar Smith will compete with Malbrough for the high jump win and Brandon Frazier who is accomplished in both the sprints and jumps will use his speed to try to jump 24 feet this weekend. His 23-10.5 will make sure Malbrough brings his A game.
Westmoreland is one of the top throwers in all of Texas and it'll be hard for anyone to beat him.
