UIL Medical Advisory Committee Meeting Notes


The University Interscholastic League (UIL) held a Medical Advisory Committee meeting this morning. They addressed sports medicine issues as they currently affect high school athletes. The goal of the meeting was to stay current in making informed decisions in sports medicine issues.

James Harris of the UIL along with other medical professionals and sports medicine trainer representatives also discussed the current UIL status with the COVID-19 situation and the 2020 season.

As it still stands, the season suspensions and school closures are still extended to May 4th. They will continue to evaluate the situation and stay in touch with state legislature and the governor will will pivot based on the leadership and guidance.

The UIL still holds onto hope and has plans to allow the 2020 season state championships to be completed if the situations allows. That includes allowing a period for kids to get in competition fitness/shape.
