Many of the same athletes from the shot-put competition came back hungry for discus. Amelia Flynt from Katy Cinco Ranch decided that one gold medal wasn't enough, so she threw a PR of 173-7 and got one more. Chrystal Herpin of Pearland Dawson claimed the silver with a throw of 166-11 after tying for third in shotput earlier today. Emma Sralla, who only competed in discus, took third place and threw 163-10.

The preliminary round of the boys' discus showcased some serious talent with Kevin Grubbs of Humble Summer Creek and shot put champion Bryce Foster both throwing past the 190 mark. With his last throw of the day Kevin Grubbs secured his first place spot with a huge PR of 207-1, just a foot away from the state record. Jacob Tracy of Lake Travis overcame Bryce Foster with a throw of 195-9 to take the silver medal, and Bryce ended up in third after throwing 191-1.
After the competition, Grubbs showed his million dollar smile and for good cause. He is now the US No. 2 discus thrower distance wise with his 207-1, trailing only Foster's national leading mark of 210-10, which is the third best all-time Texas throw behind Brian Robinson in 2002 and Gabe Oladipo in 2017; both have the top mark of 215-02.
