Cameron McConnell (951) transferred from Cherokee Trail (Aurora, Co) to Canyon Randall
Cameron McConnell moved into Texas for the upcoming school year and will compete this UIL cross country season for Canyon Randall as a junior.
McConnell arrives at Randall as middle distance star after running some elite times last fall and spring. The Cherokee Trail HS (Aurora, Colorado) has six 18:00 and under 5,000m performances last year including a 17:10 at the Colorado Classic XC Meet and 18:00.50 Colorado State Cross Country Championships both for second place finishes.
On the track, McConnell finished third at the Colorado state meet in the 800m (2:10.83) and second in the 1,600m (4:53.29). She ran a one mile PR of 4:49.91 at the The NSAF Outdoor Nationals.
By gaining the McConnell transfer, the Canyon Randall cross country team adds another quality runner to the team that finished sixth in one of the toughest UIL 5A girls team battles ever. The 2021 season could resume where last season finished in terms of the outstanding team battle for the state championship.
Randall head coach Rebekah James' squad enters the season ranked No. 4 in the CCCAT poll and returns all seven of their runners from last season. Adding McConnell to a strong team with the leadership of junior Sierra Sanchez and seniors Ariyah Gomez and Romie Rubio will be huge for the Lady Raiders.
