Cross Country Invitational
An event that everyone in Austin, Texas and beyond looks forward to is the Austin City Limits (ACL) event; and it is coming up soon. However, a cross country event that we are looking forward to seeing how some of the ATX area powerhouse schools and individual compete will the the Cedar Park Cross Country Invitational.
If the big individuals run and the big teams run their big dawgs we could see a special day as this could be an early season battle of the ATX.
Girls Preview
This race should belong to the defending UIL 5A state champ Isabel Conde De Frankenberg (Cedar Park). She has yet to run a 5,000m race this season, but that should change and we just might see a state leader change when she does.
It won't be a cake walk for her though. Charlotte Hudson (Dallas Highland Park), Taylor Mathis (Vandegrift) and Caitlin Garrett (Vandegrift) will make a race out of it.
The team focus should be around Cross Country Coaches Association of Texas (CCCAT) UIL 6A No. 9 ranked Vandegrift, UIL 5A No. 4 Highland Park, and a Round Rock squat that has looked stronger with every week.
Boys Preview
Kevin Sanchez has been running like money so far this season and if he toes the line in Cedar Park, expect nothing less than another stellar performance. He is ranked US No. 1 with is run last week at FEAST. Leander senior Jace Poole is also having a nice start to 2021 and will be in contention throughout this race.
Expect to see Hudson Bennett (Burnet), Cade Stevens (Round Rock), Michael Marler (Cibolo Steele), and Luke Hein (Round Rock) all in the lead pack.
The Round Rock boys have improved week by week and they had heck of a team performance at the FEAST Patriot Inv. This week, if everyone runs, a nice match-up between them and Vandegrift is on the horizon. According to the virtual meet, the team scores has a two point separation. Comal Canyon will come up to the meet to make it even more interesting.
