Team Tuesday: Brandeis Confident After Islander Splash Win

The San Antonio Brandeis boys cross country team is feeling dangerous this cross country season. Last weekend, they proved that maybe they should be considered that way by the Region 4 and UIL 6A foes.

Brandeis won the Islander Splash boys race by only totaling 72 points and in route to doing so, they also knocked off two of the Cross Country Coaches Association of Texas (CCCAT) top 10 ranked teams (Prosper and Round Rock), who respectively finished second and third.

The challenging race conditions were a barrier to all runners, but Brandeis was able to endure and put together a confidence building race. They finished with a 16:44 team average and a 1:23 deviation between the 1-5 runners. Helping to lead the charge was Skyler Roper who won the race with a time of 15:53.47, outside of a short district course, that was Roper's personal best and third win this cross country season.

"It gives me and my team a lot of confidence for these are the teams we'll be racing at regionals if not at state."

The 2-4 runners also did an outstanding job of pack running as they finished within 16 seconds of one another. With several first and second year runners, the team is gaining confidence. Roper said, "it gives me and my team a lot of confidence for these are the teams we'll be racing at regionals if not at state."

Becoming recognized as a team to watch out for in the region is reason to be optimistic, and that's how the Brandeis feel, but they still feel they have room to improve as Roper added, "it's just nice to know that we are up there, we have room to improve."
