The 2017 UIL district 19-6A championships in Katy was one of the many dramatic district races across the state that year.
The boys race was a battle between Katy, Seven Lakes, Strake Jesuit, and Tompkins. In the end, the race was a front running individual battle between a Tompkins duo of Daniel Figueroa (15:44) and Cole Lindhorst (15:50) along with Erick Lara (15:51) of Strake Jesuit.
The team race was even closer with all every district team fighting for a regional qualification.

Tompkins 1-2 finish drastically helped the team and adding an eighth place finish by their number three runner was huge as Seven Lake was able to put four runners in the top 10.
A team average of 16:14 was another key for Tompkins, which was faster than Seven Lakes' 16:19 average, but the Spartans were able to run a 32 second split to make up the ground and force the 42 point tie.
Ties come down to the sixth runners on each team, which eventually gave Tompkins 20 < 28 district title.
