The Southlake Carroll girls ran a fast district race Saturday morning
District 4-6A
This is one of the districts that always has effects on the rest of the post season, specifically Region 1-6A. Many of those years and this year as well, it's due to Southlake Carroll.
The Carroll girls had an outstanding day team wise as they went 1-5 in the scoring, but that's not the big implication. Led by senior Kaylie Cox (17:48.50), the team turned in a fabulous 18:15 average and no matter how fast they ran, they did it in a 0.41 second 1-5 variation.
Not only were Cox and her girls top notch performers, but we may have learned a lot about the Northwest Eaton girls as well. They've shown signs of improvement throughout the season, but now they might just be the perfect spoilers for anyone trying to get the third or fourth team state meet qualifying position from Region 1-6A. Eaton ran a 18:54 team average with a 0.21 second split.
There were more great things happening in the district's boys race and again, Carroll was involved. Their boys team ran a season best 15:26 team average and were led by junior David Fisher who PRed in 15:09.10. The same as with the girls, the Carroll boys also went 1-5 for a perfect score
The Keller boys also showed they are in championship season form with their second place finish. Led by sophomore Giovanni Casias (15:46), the Indians ran a 16:11 team average with their fifth scorer only being 0.49 seconds behind. This also makes Keller a dangerous team at next week's regional meet.
District 10-5A
The Lovejoy boys have been piecing together the 2021 cross country season. . . . until now.
The Leopards had a big time meet going for a 16:33 team average on a tough Myers Park course. Led by senior Tate Barr who went 16:06.10, the team had a solid 1:05 split that could good enough to get them back to state and possibly back on the podium.
Also running well was The Colony junior Devon Judelson who finished runner-up to Barr. Judelson has been consistent most of the season and that could be what lands him at the state meet this season. His performance also helped his squad advance to regionals.
District 6-6A
Region 1-6A drama is building up.
The defending UIL 6A girls team champions Flower Mound ran their first full team 5K race all season long. They looked like a state championship team and like the MileSplit50 No. 7 ranked team.
The Lady Jags perfect scored the meet and doing so in a 18:33 team average. The last two races in the state could be big match ups between Flower Mound and Southlake Carroll.
Amarillo River Road senior Crawford Kiser had a district race that could have him in contention for a district and state championship
District 9-4A
The 4A girls will be one of the hottest races at the state meet and we got a glimpse of two stud girls teams at the district level.
Celina and Sanger are two very good teams and will be in contention for podium finishes. They'll have to duel it out again at regionals, but the third straight match (state) could be the most important one.
Celina got the district win with their 12:22 team average and top five finishes from Adele Clarke, Alexis Frick, and Aimee Clarke.
Sanger freshman Kyley Cochran and her crew just about went runner for runner with Celina taking second by only five points 32-37. They had a 12:38 team average, but heir 47 second split was huge and will be key moving forward.
Melissa junior Abigail Bass won the meet in 11:16.09 and is still one of the 4A favorites to win a state title.
District 3-5A
The Canyon Randall girls had a big day. The team's lead runner, Cameron McConnell went 17:16.23 to win, but teammate Ariyah Gomez had her best race of the season by far bolstering the team overall performance.
The Lady Raiders dropped 18:46 team average, which puts them in state meet podium consideration.
The boys race was also big. Amarillo were led by their usual 1-2 punch of Isaac McGill (14:14.17) and Miles Cox 15:33.35. The seniors got help from Noah Watt (15:42.0) who also dipped under 16:00.
We'll see them go heads up with the top two 5A boys teams in Grapevine and Denton next week, but Amarillo is state meet podium level good!
District 7-4A
District 7 always seems to have a hand at the state meet podium finishes every year. This year's opportunity could belong to the Argyle boys.
Mason White, Tyler Westrom, and Brian Woolums all turned in sub 17:00 performances to help lead Argyle to the district win.
The team had a 16:56 team average and could be a major factor in Lubbock.
District 1-3A
Crawford Kiser had a good day and looks to be in contention to win the individual state title.
The Amarillo River Road senior was a top 10 medalist last season, but he looks primed to make a run at the title this year.
He won the district title in 16:23.65 and will challenge Wyatt Hoover (Poth) and Angel Torres (Tornillo) for the UIL 3A boys individual championship.
